Judge Salvia Smith

Salvia Y. Smith currently serves as a Magistrate Court Judge in Clayton County. She is a successful litigator that focuses her practice in the areas of criminal defense, family law, and civil matters. Born and raised in Bolingbrook, Illinois, Ms. Smith migrated to Georgia where she graduated from North Clayton High School as student body president. Ms. Smith earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. While at Spelman, she was involved in the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program, tutored elementary school children, participated in numerous community service activities, and simultaneously worked full-time.

Ms. Smith earned her Juris Doctor from The University of Georgia Lumpkin School of Law in Athens, GA. While at UGA, she participated in The Frederick Douglas Moot Court Competition, was actively involved in BLSA, worked for the Athens Public Defender's Office, and interned for the Georgia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. Ms. Smith did a summer clerkship for the Honorable Justice Robert Benham of The Supreme Court of Georgia. During her third year of law school, she worked in The Office of Counsel for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Multifamily Division.

After graduating from law school, Attorney Smith began her law career at a small firm that concentrated on criminal defense, real estate, and general civil matters. After being in private practice for several years, she started her own firm and currently practices in the Atlanta metropolitan area. She is managing partner of her law firm Smith & Brown, LLC. She currently teaches at Georgia State University and coaches Georgia State’s Mock Trial Team. Throughout her tenure as an attorney, Ms. Smith has been involved in numerous associations including the Clayton County Bar Association, Georgia High School Mock Trial Attorney Coach, Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Family Law Section of The State Bar of Georgia, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Ms. Smith is a devoted and loving mother to her son Brandon. To keep life interesting, Ms. Smith enjoys mentoring young people, going to concerts, and travelling.
