CCPS Superintendent Morcease J. Beasley Issues a Call to Action on FAA Fuel Tax Issue

Clayton County Board of Commissioners supports County Leadership “Call to Action”

House Bill 821 which threatens to revoke roughly $20 million in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Fuel Tax monies, is set to be voted on at the Capitol this Monday, February 12 at 9:00 a.m. The financial loss will not only negatively affect Clayton County Public Schools, but services countywide.

The Clayton County Delegation requests–and needs–your presence at the Capitol at 8:45 a.m. tomorrow, Monday, February 12 and possibly Tuesday, February 13 to sit in the Gallery to show the House majority that we as a community object to this bill, because its passage would be detrimental to Clayton County’s future.

Additionally, we are also asking that you call AND email ALL of the following to voice your objections:

-Governor Nathan Deal ( webform/contact-governor)
-David Ralston, the Speaker of the House (

-Jon Burns, the Majority Leader (
-Delta Airlines ( commentComplaint

Clayton County Board of Commissioners stands and supports the Clayton County Delegation in this critical issue. We need to show the entire House delegation that Clayton County will stand together, not sit by and watch as they make decisions that negatively impact our children and communities.

You can read and hear more about this bill via this link from the CCPS website: news/district_news/ ccps_superintendent_morcease_j__beasley_issues_a_

A Georgia House of Representatives committee discussed and approved a proposed bill that could have a serious impact on Clayton County Public Schools’ (CCPS) ability to provide the best education possible for the children of Clayton County.  During a Ways and Means Committee Hearing House Bill (HB) 821 was passed on to the Rules Committee. If passed by the House and State Senate and signed by Governor Nathan Deal, HB 821 would supersede the current federal court case. This would remove $20 million from the current Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and eliminate aviation fuel from any future SPLOST.
