NOTICE
TO: ATTORNEYS AND PARTIES FILING DOCUMENTS IN THE
OFFICE OF THE CLERK OF SUPERIOR & MAGISTRATE COURTS

Pursuant to code section 10-1-393.8, effective July 1, 2006, it is now illegal to publicly post or publicly display in any manner an individual's social security number. As used in this Code section, 'publicly post' or 'publicly display' means to 'intentionally communicate or otherwise make available to the general public'.

Because records in the Superior and Magistrate Court Clerks' offices are 'public records', the inclusion of this prohibited information in filings is a violation of the law. Thus, social security numbers should not be included in any manner on any document submitted for filing in this office for public display.

If additional personal information is necessary for credit, criminal history or other legitimate purposes, please advise filers to limit social security information to the last four digits.
