Recommendations Report (October 2008)

Study Overview

The Clayton County Department of Transportation and Development has prepared a Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) which outlines cost-effective solutions to address multimodal transportation needs both in the short and long term.  The CTP development is funded through a combination of monies from Clayton County and Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) planning funds.  The CTP will identify projects and strategies to provide for current and future mobility needs of the citizens of Clayton County and its seven incorporated municipalities.  The CTP development process will include evaluation of future land use, population growth, transportation safety issues, system operational efficiency, economic development opportunities, future travel demand, and system maintenance focused on all current and future modes of travel.

Impacts to the natural and built environment and environmental justice communities will also be taken into consideration during the plan development. Through this comprehensive study, a prioritized program of projects and strategies to address safety, congestion mitigation, traffic flow enhancement, and improved land use to sustain economic development and quality of life in Clayton County through year 2035 will be developed.   An evaluation of potential funding sources to implement these projects and strategies will also be conducted.

Specific study activities include an existing and future transportation conditions inventory, a multimodal needs assessment, evaluation of alternatives to address transportation needs, and the development of a program of projects to meet the identified needs.
